SEW for SOS is an innovative initiative, student-run outreach initiative with a mission to spread happiness and positivity. Through SEW for SOS, students sew miniature (5″ by 5″) positive pillows with kind and inspirational messages shipped inside. Since the initiative was spearheaded by middle-school student Luke Tyson last March, it has garnered the support of over 50 other student volunteers – and together we have sewn and shipped over 500 pillows to hospital patients, victims of depression, war veterans, and other individuals nationwide. SEW for SOS has been featured on NBC 12 News (WWBT), ABC 8 News (WRIC), RVA News, VCU InSight, Sponsr.Us, and was a “Top Story” on the national NBC News website. We have formed partnerships with many well-known organizations, including National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the American Foundation for the Prevention of Suicide (AFSP) and Operation First Response.
